Intern Spotlight: Tina Lavallee

Tina Lavallee began her internship in January 2014 with Kathy Deveroux, an advertising executive who handles product promotion for Chaddock Furniture  and others in the furniture industry.  The job involves writing ad copy in the form of short, creative product bios that will be incorporated into Chaddock’s website, catalog, and market materials.  Writing furniture ad copy requires a wide range of skills, including a thorough understanding

of terms and styles, as well as insight into how an interior designer may use each piece and the product information that they require. Tina was especially well-suited  for this internship because in addition to her education in interior design, she has worked as a freelance writer for more than 10 years.

A typical day begins at Kathy Deveroux’s  in-home office in Greensboro, NC  and often involves conference calls with Chaddock Furniture’s stable of prestigious furniture designers. Chaddock is considered a high-end producer and currently markets lines by David Easton, Mary McDonald, and Larry Laslo. Communication with the designers themselves is important, as their thoughts and inspirations on each piece are integral to their ad copy.  Each piece of furniture is assigned a product bio, complete with descriptions of why  Chaddock loves the piece, design inspiration, craftsmanship details, technical specifications and  customization details.  The goal is to spark a potential buyer’s interest while providing essential details that are often left out of other furniture manufacturer’s  catalogs and websites.

“This internship has given me a lot of insight into the world of furniture marketing and product design.  It is a fast-moving, highly competitive environment that plays a major role in our local economy, “ says Tina.

Tina Lavallee currently lives with her family  in Asheboro, North Carolina.  She looks forward to working in the interior design field following her graduation from Randolph Community College in May 2014.
