Intern Spotlight: Addie Welch

Addie Welch has always loved creative thinking and design.  She Addie Welch lives in Robbins, NC with her husband and son and is soon expecting the arrival of a baby girl in August.  After a degree from Sandhills Community College and working as a draftsman for several years, she wanted to work on the creative side of the industry and knew that Randolph Community College was the perfect fit.  Her career at RCC has opened the door to a great opportunity work as an intern with RCC Interior Design Graduate, Marta Mitchell Interiors in Greensboro, NC.

It is an exciting experience everyday at Marta’s office, making it exciting to see what comes next.  Over the past couple months Addie has had the opportunity to assist with almost every stage of design.  She began by assisting in initial measurements and creating a CAD drawing.  Marta has also given her the opportunity to visit job sites and see the installation process.  Currently she is working on two very fun projects working on the selection process.  One project is an entire house that has been renovated and other clients are moving into a new space.  Addie has had the opportunity to make the furniture selections and assist with picking out fabrics for both projects.  She is also in the process of developing 3d models of both spaces and hopes she is there to see the actual project come to completion.

Marta as been a great supervisor to Addie and has really taken this opportunity to teach her as much as possible about the field.  Addie is grateful to have the chance to learn from such a distinguished designer with a unique style and is excited what the future will hold.

Intern Spotlight: Casey Huneycutt

Casey Huneycutt is currently interning at Stanly Interiors in Albemarle, North Carolina and is under the guidance of Interior Designer, Angela Mabe.  Mabe, also a graduate from Randolph Community College, has taught Huneycutt the important of strong communication skills and building client-designer relationships.

Huneycutt is responsible for assisting in the showroom by organizing materials and finishes by price point and working with clients to determine their needs and aesthetics for product suggestion.  She has also made site visits to clients' homes to make design decisions.  She recently completed a project for a client's kitchen, by suggesting a nature tile that would be harmonious with a pre-existing accent color.  The client was very satisfied with the end result and the design made the accents pop in the room.

Casey has learned a great deal of information from Angela and this has continued her interests in Interior Design.  After graduation in May Casey plans to seek employment.
