Beth Sartore, Fashion Consultant and Editor for the Greensboro News and Record addressed the graduating students on dressing professionally in the workplace and preparing attire for job interviews. Sartore brought multiple garments to show how to achieve different looks, while being cost conscious.
Beth received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she concentrated in textiles and design. After graduation she began her career as stylist in the fashion industry. For the last 15 years she has worked as a design, fashion, and trend consultant on brands such as: Polo, Xhilaration, Merona, Bill Blass, and Hanes. Over her career she has worked closely with the apparel areas of top retailers including Target, Wal-Mart, and JC Penney. Combining her fine arts training with fashion and textile knowledge, Beth currently works as a wardrobe consultant, apparel designer and trend analyst.
In addition to consulting, Beth writes a monthly column for the Greensboro News & Record. Her column, Style Cents™, combines three of her passions: fashion, ecology, and cost savings. She looks at inexpensive ways to dress on-trend and under budget while keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum. It’s a whole new way to look at fashion.
Beth is the former Regional Director of the Fashion Group International, a non-profit association of fashion professionals and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the 9-11 Sculpture Committee.
Even though it involved shoveling snow, her favorite job was working as a crew member to Christo & Jeanne-Claude’s The Gates in New York City’s Central Park.
Beth lives in Greensboro with her husband and two sons.
